I just want to be reading.

I have tried three times to write today’s post. (This was yesterday….so four times?)

Please, pause a moment and lower your expectations for what you’re about to read. I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

I’m still transitioning out of vacation mode…I think. Or maybe I’m just being a little lazy. I did scrub the house Tuesday, so that’s something.

I have five books on loan from the library waiting to be read. Started one of them tonight because I need some good fiction.

In fact, I’m irrepressibly curious as to what you are reading this week/summer. I’ll share if you will!

Here’s what is in my book bag:

Partials by Dan Well (and the second book in that trilogy: Fragments. Because I don’t want to have to wait! Duh.)

Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. I’ve been told that her writing is fantastic.

The Maze Runner by James Dashner. This one has been on my list awhile.

Tomorrow, When the War Began by John Marsden. Because the title is enough to get me interested.

Providence and the Problem of Evil by Richard Swinburne. Because school.

Recently I finished Tiger Eyes by Judy Blume. I’d never read any of Blume’s work and absolutely fell in love with her writing.

So this is my very, very late Wednesday post. It’s not even Friday and I’m already being feckless. Jeeze.

What are you reading?

Responses to “I just want to be reading.”

  1. Professor VJ Duke

    Currently, the professor is reading:
    (1) Innocents Abroad by Mark Twain. Mainly because Twain is the greatest. 😉
    (2) The Mystery of the Yellow Room by Gaston Leroux. This is so I can do a ripping book review. I do believe it will be highly rippable.

    1. Kaela Moore

Mark Twain is legendary. I need to read some more of his works as I am unfamiliar with Innocents Abroad. Looking forward to your ripping book review!

      1. Professor VJ Duke

Ah, yes he is! I could recommend a few Twain fiction if you’d like…

Thank you! A ripio review will be posted Tuesday, though not for this book.

      2. Kaela Moore

Please recommend! I’ll add them to my Goodreads list. Beause, you know, I’m all about Goodreads.

      3. Professor VJ Duke

I did not know you liked Goodreads! Maybe the professor should get one.

How about The Prince and the Pauper? 🙂

        Not even for the professor?

  2. Surprise Mama

    I. SO. TOTALLY. AGREE!! This post reminds me of one of my earliest posts about how I just wanted to take a reading vacation! BTW, Tiger Eyes is totally one of my favorites. I hear that they are making a movie!!

    1. Kaela Moore

Oh, a reading vacation sounds incredible! I need to read your post about that.

I hope the movie is good! Her writing is so good. The way she developed her characters was simple and genuine.

      1. Surprise Mama

I just love everything about Judy Blume.

  3. Tiger Eyes (@TigerEyesMovie)

Hi Kaela, thanks for giving Tiger Eyes a mention on your blog. If you ever do want to take a break from reading to see the story brought to life on screen, the film is currently playing very select cities, but it is also widely available on all major cable video on demand systems, iTunes, Amazon Instant, Youtube Movies and many other digital sites (not Netflix yet) in the US. We hope it lives up to your love of the book, the screenplay was co written by Judy and her son Lawrence Blume, who also directed the film.

    1. Kaela Moore

I am looking forward to seeing it!

  4. Jack Flacco

No worries about the many starts to your blog post, I’ve had that happen with my posts. I’ve even gone so far as scrap whole posts I’d taken hours to write (with photos and links, no less)! Frequently, in fact.

Hmm, my bookshelf? Well, as you probably know, I’m reading the entire John Grisham bibliography in chronological order. I’ve sneaked in a few of his recent titles, but by all definitions, I’m attempting it chronologically. I’m currently reading The Partner. I should rephrase that–I have yet to start reading The Partner. I also have Warm Bodies a friend of the family had recommended. I’m holding on to that one for sometime in the fall or winter. Suffice it to say I’m loving what I’m reading right now.

I’m reading Eat Pray Love too! Or rather, rereading it. I won’t spoil the book for you but I will say I got frustrated with Gilbert at times.

I’m also currently rereading some old books from my younger years. Any book from Brian Jacques’ Redwall series is always good to kill a few hours and go on a grand adventure with lots of good food.

    1. Kaela Moore

Ooh, I remember reading some of the Redwall series. They are magical. I’m going to have to revisit them!

  6. mummyflyingsolo

Eat Pray Love is fabulous. Stick with her through India where it can get a little long winded. The next phase is worth it. I am currently reading The Descendants. I believe it came out as a movie recently however I haven’t seen it. The book is great though. Really enjoying the writing. Although I’m finding it difficult to get to as I’m trying to keep up with reading all the awesome blogs I follow. Man it’s not easy! Oh and some days, you just don’t feel like writing. I wouldn’t worry about it. 🙂

    1. Kaela Moore

Love The Descendants movie, so the book must be incredible!
Sometimes it’s nice to just settle in and read instead of write. 😉

  7. JayNine

I can sooo relate to the three times writing this post, please lower expectations here: 😉 See one of my recent posts–” a simple write” lol
    Cheers! Great post!

    1. Kaela Moore

I loved it. Thank you for sharing it, and for reading!

  8. Kim @ Creating My Niche

I am currently reading “Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet.” I have a friend that is an OB nurse, she gets down time at work and can read way more than I get to. She always recommends books to me, and hasn’t failed me yet. So far this is no exception! I’m about half way now, so I’ll also be looking for my next read soon!

    1. Kaela Moore

I’ll have to look that one up! It’s great having friends with good taste in books. 🙂
